The competitiveness of the Macedonian economy and the challenges of export companies in the EU internal market

This publication contains a detailed analysis of the competitiveness of the Macedonian economy within the EU internal market, using two concepts: microeconomic and macroeconomic concepts. During the preparation of the analysis, 103 indicators from the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) presented in the Global Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF) were taken into account. The analysis shows the challenges, but also the failure and the progress made by the government of North Macedonia in relation to the factors necessary to monitor the achieved results.

The purpose of the analysis is to give support to the companies for easier handling of the changes that are necessary in order for them to maintain their competitiveness after the country's accession to the Internal Market of the EU. Changes in the market, reforms in public administration and strengthening of institutions should go parallel to the membership negotiation process that North Macedonia has started. At the same time, this should also be a signal for company owners to implement internal changes, both organizational and technological and structural, in order to survive after the country's entry into the Internal Market of the EU, where they will face high competition, and if they are not willing to fight they will be suppressed or in the worst case "kicked" out of the market.

However, this paper also provides guidelines for the government to more easily and in one place perceive all the weaknesses that are the result of inadequate implementation of the competitive strategy of North Macedonia.
