Programme goals

The programme aims to strengthen the skills of preparing policy documents for all researchers. These are specific documents that are not the same as the extensive research and analysis conducted by experts, but are a summary of the findings and conclusions of the conducted research, with the greatest emphasis on the recommendations for policy changes. The training will help participants through practical work to go through the steps of preparing policy documents, ie will practically guide them through the process that seeks to result in policy changes according to the presented arguments.

Contribution towards development of knowledge, skills and competences

At the end of the training the participants will:

  •  Recognize the value of well-prepared policy documents for successfully acquainting the public with their research, data and recommendations
  • Be able to present data and evidence from research in a clear and unambiguous way
  •  Get acquainted with the recommended structure of these documents
  •  Gain skills in using tool presentation options
  •  Learn what are the key elements that the documents should contain
  •  Make a draft policy document in their field of action with the support of trainers (structure and key points)

  • What is a policy document and what is its purpose?
  • Structure of documents and mandatory elements
  • Tools for presenting options (SWOT, PEST ..)
  • Options for visual presentation of data
  • Practical exercises
  • Exercise for preparing a draft document (only key points) Intercultural learning
  • Option to publish and distribute a short version of the document (policy brief)

Iskra has extensive experience in managing projects financed by the European Union in Macedonia, mainly for the development of institutions of public administration and supporting reforms aimed at EU membership. She was part of the management team of the contracting authority for IPA, where she was responsible for the functioning of IPA structures in the beneficiary institutions, capacity development, establishment and operation of the decentralized implementation system of IPA,quality control of tender documents and procedures, conducting numerous tender evaluations and coordinating all Twinning contracts.
